The Grey Lady

on
thursday night i came home with an armful of books on folklore from the east coast. lots of helen creighton and some stuff on acadian and micmac folklore as well. decided it would be a good idea to read some of bluenose ghosts before bed- there's an interesting chapter called so many wandering women which was packed with some good stories. one about "the grey lady". i think that one will definitely make it into the series.

time to settle in for an hour of newfoundland fairy lore....

Fables and Folklore

last year i went out on a limb and purchased a very large hand-tinting kit. i wanted to use them to tint a series on classic fairy tales. while brainstorming about locations and costumes, i thought about making a series based on folklore and fables from the maritimes and newfoundland.
So here's my next series: large-scale tinted photographs of fables, legends and stories from eastern canada. edmund dulac's work ( above) is my inspiration for colours and composition and mood. what do you think?

i've got a lot of research and reading to do.....
