i just recently bought the 3rd season of Mad Men and i can't wait to watch it. i should keep my eyes open for some vintage dresses to shoot. and if you have anything hiding in your closets you should let me know about it.

don draper. is there anything finer than a man in a well cut suit?

summertime

it's finally hit me that summer has hit nova scotia. i'm starting to unravel ideas that have been lurking in the back of my mind. ideas like androgyny, western whorehouses and girl rumbles.
it's about time i rented some costumes, got a tux and learned how to make fake blood.

hobos with shotguns

Jason is shooting Hobo with a Shotgun so i've been taking advantage and hanging out on set whenever i can. it also means i've been neglecting everything else including but not limited to: the cat's litter box, laundry, groceries, family, friends and finally, this blog. my computer is also in for repair (fingers-crossed) so hopefully i'll be posting regularly soon.

the divers

i'm still reading through folklore books and looking for characters and stories to use for my photo series - no more news on that front. i do, however, keep myself excited to take photos by looking at art or photos that i love. This one, the divers by george hoyningen-huene is one of my all-time favorites. doesn't it feel so timeless? simplicity of composition & anonymity. it feels like an ayn rand novel but without the pages upon pages glorifying capitalism.

The Grey Lady

on
thursday night i came home with an armful of books on folklore from the east coast. lots of helen creighton and some stuff on acadian and micmac folklore as well. decided it would be a good idea to read some of bluenose ghosts before bed- there's an interesting chapter called so many wandering women which was packed with some good stories. one about "the grey lady". i think that one will definitely make it into the series.

time to settle in for an hour of newfoundland fairy lore....
